viking817408yI had the same dilemma a few months back, and went for the change. It was a totally different field of development (data science), not bringing in much of what I knew really really well.
I figured it's good to get new challenges. What I did before I could do blindfolded, and it was so easy to get help via Google. Now, there is little documentation, and you have to think, analyze and put your mind into solving issues. Pretty much on your own. I love it.
Take a chance, if you are interested.
If it scares you, go for it - you'll have the right motivation to excel. -
iAmNaN68458yI thought about it, but at my stage in life, giving up a solid known is not a good idea. A pay cut is out of the question, and giving up benefits like excellent, low cost health insurance, and almost free airline travel are hard to give up. And I have 25 days PTO each year, which would almost certainly be reset to 5, or less. And I really enjoy what I do, which is important.

Just had a recruiter that actually got my attention. Said they need an Oracle DBA that is interested in being trained for DevOps/AWS/Docker, and wanted to know if I was interested. That was a hard one, but I already have great pay, benefits, and perks that I don't want to give up, and they can't guarantee to replace. Now, if I was tired of what I'm doing ...
