Corporate IT: YOU MUST COME INTO THE OFFICE. WE JUST RECEIVED AN URGENT NOTIFICATION FROM APPLE OF A SECURITY VULNERABILITY IN iOS DEVICES. YOU HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS HAVING A MAC ASSET. COME INTO THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY AND UPDATE IT.

Dev: I don’t use that mac, it sits in my office desk drawer unplugged. I’ll update it if I ever need it for anything. Which I won’t, we don’t do iOS dev anymore.

Corporate IT: NOOOOO!!! YOU MUST UPDATE IT NOW!!!

Dev: I’m not wasting time driving into the office this week. We have an important deadline we’re working on, I can’t afford to lose 2 hours to this. Plus it can’t be turned on right now, It’s been unplugged for 2 years.

Corporate IT: THAT WOULDN’T STOP A HACKER!!

Dev: …

    It's either that or ppl still using Windows 7 and requiring you to write websites for IE

    You know those arrogant arses who were kicked out of their coding bootcamp / CS degree / apprenticeship because they sucked, but pretended they voluntarily left because it was "too easy" for them, they already knew it all, etc.?

    Yeah. I'm convinced all those guys went to work in corporate IT.

    @eo2875 "Everybody still uses IE."

    No they don't. This corporation has a bunch of web apps that don't work in other browsers. IT department puts IE on everyone's machine. The rest of the world has forgotten about IE.

    "But I still use IE at home."

    Join the rest of the planet and stop that.

    If it’s a vulnerability in iOS devices, then why would you need to update your mac? It runs on macOS. 😄

    @Lensflare lmao I misspoke. Shows how little I use that platform. 😅

    They keep sending emails, I keep ignoring it.

    Then finally they schedule a meeting, ask me to give control of my screen, they update and ask me to restart 😂

    @eo2875 oh god. My last job was exactly that for the 2 doctors offices who refused to use a newer browser, let alone OS. Never want to touch anything .net framework/asp.net mvc with VB.net and Jquery again..

    I swear all the IT kids at my university were CS dropouts who did the mental gymnastics of "I don't wanna write code all day"

    It’s usually the InfoSec team pushing this kind of stuff.
