I don't watch enough YouTube to pay for it.

Some of their content are just ads with videos in between

YouTube will continue to push more and more ads until it drives down usage. So unless people stop using it as much it will just get worse.

@donuts if you use kiwi on android, you can just use the standard desktop chrome extensions. If you want it in the YouTube app, you're probably shit outta luck.

I don't actually watch YouTube that much anymore, but I use YouTube music.

YouTube Vanced works without Root

I guess Vanced can stop working if you don't update it with its own Vanced Manager. Then again, I have an older device for which the official YouTube app is broken since a year, so I guess they just let it break for older devices.

There's also NewPipe, which is open source and completely separate from the YouTube app. It probably breaks a bit more often because Google changes things however they wish without notice.

Also, look into SponsorBlock for skipping in-video crap. It's integrated to at least Vanced, I'm not sure if you could use it with NewPipe.
