Any top tips for recruiting or things you look for in an ad?

Our company has just advertised 4 roles (one was a junior PHP/JS dev role) and we got 90 applications. Only one was for the dev role, and we decided not to pursue it.

We're keen not to go the recruiter route, they cost a ton and that means less pay for the dev in the end. Plus, you've only got to look at this week's rants to see how they work!

Every day without help feels like an eternity of ever shortening impossible client deadlines for me. 😩😭 (I'm the main dev on a team of 3 including our PM)

Networking. If there's any meet ups in your area, start going, meet other devs, tell them why your company is awesome and that you're hiring. :)

where are you located? I'm a php dev with a Jr title now with 4 yrs exp. (company thinks by not giving me a proper title I can't find a mid lvl development job). if you pay more and offer growth I'm down.

Can you post an example of the ad?

@Coderman Milton Keynes, UK, bit far from Vegas I'm afraid! I'll try and post a copy of the ad text later today once I'm at work. I don't know what the rules are around actual recruitment on devRant...we don't want the recruiters to realise and overrun us on here!

If you are interested in graduates then contact some universities. They will usually have a careers website which graduates can access for a few years. That is the place I managed to get quite a few interviews for my internship year and all but one were small local companies.
