what do you mean "cultural" difference? Is someone telling you that it's a "cultural difference"?
I mean if the person is at a Junior position, I could see how they might not know almost anything, but they should at least show the motivation or effort at trying to become independent, otherwise they have negative worth. How long have they been at the company? -
Ah yes I am working with "experienced" offshore senior "devs" who can't even use basic commands on the Windows or Linux command prompt. Dude I showed you fucking ls and git fetch 10 times, why the fuck you can't remember anything I tell you even after having recorded the goddamn session.
Experienced in bullshitting more like it. -
@Hazarth I got "cultural difference" from management when I tried asking wtf is going on. A year!

@Benutzername I mean I guess that's true if his culture is "We just don't do work, ever, at all"
Maybe he/she came from the "you can be anything you want" lie that we tell to young adults for some reason. Not sure if that's a culture. but it would be better for both the employee and the employer if the guy/gal started doing something they enjoy and know how to do -
@Benutzername Yeah, that's a squasher that means "I can't be arsed to deal with the real problem here."
Cultural differences might account for showing up a tad late to meetings and someone appearing rude by being too direct, or sarcastic by saying "sir" 20 times in a sentence. They don't account for someone's complete inability to do the job, and I wouldn't hang around anywhere where that was considered acceptable.
Well today I found out that is perfectly fine to not communicate or look at your phone and be unresponsive while pair programming. They can't even write a single line of code on their own. I'm having to dictate them things by character. How can this be seen as a cultural difference. How the hell are they still employed and the most important question. Why do I need to accomodate to them and find ways to motivate them?
They should be doing what they are paid to do.
