    Just a minor addition: Unicode is just a mapping of codepoints to characters - whereas ISO-... is both a mapping and encoding.

    Encodings are UTF-7, -8, -16 and -32. There is also a Chinese variant and the limited UCS encodings.
    And the broken MySQL utf8 implementation.
