Almost 2022 , I am still confuse why the f### the company downgrade the project from elixir phoenix to nodejs to laravel php.

@C0D4 but the project is Webrtc. I don't think PHP is good fit for that tho.

Future maintainability. Elixir is fun and powerful but if you where to quit they could be hard pressed to find a replacement.

And since its also quite unknown I believe it could be a hard sell to higher ups that sit on the money.

I actually learned it just about two years ago for a project at work but decided against using it for production for just those reasons.

I was the only one that would be able to maintain it and that it never a good idea.

Even in the context of job security, keeping the job by holding the company “hostage” ;) will just provoke them into really looking to replace you.

So to go with elixir you would need to make sure there are more devs that can maintain it, and YOU have to sell in the benefits of it over alternative platforms.

And for a company, technological advantages is not the only or always most important metric.

@johnmelodyme if your using sockets, then no. I wouldn't use PHP for that personally, but that's not to say you can't.... shouldn't would be the right word, Some people do enjoy more insanity then I do, and that's saying something.
