    Yeah, fuck edge for not supporting something which only exists for a year and most people haven't even heard of yet. Also it's not just edge, more than 30% of people don't have a browser which supports it.

    @hitko But 69.38% of users can use/see this format...
    So we should stick to old, less compressed formats only for those 30% ?

    Y'all don't know how long it took me to figure out what that issue was today

    Maybe add this site to your favorites : https://caniuse.com/avif

    That can save a lot of time when looking for stuff like that.

    Is there any other format for images closer to avif but with support from MS??
  • 2
    @Grumm Yeah, because this new format doesn't offer 30% improvement over the next best option. If you have a really good use case where even a couple percent difference translates to thousands of $ per month, you can program something to serve the best supported image format to each user.

    @EpicofGilgamesh https://caniuse.com//...

    Or just keep using jpeg & png, you're not making something where slightly smaller images will save more than a couple $ per month, and you can bill the customer for higher traffic anyway.

    I@hitko advice taken

    I just despite the fact that even after getting rid of ie , Microsoft still insists on not being at the forefront of integrating features already done by it's competitors

    There's a reason the web is full of old tech, it works.

    Living on the edge .... is rarely worth it unless the big4 support it on desktop and mobile.

    - Chrome
    - Firefox
    - Edge
    - Safari

    @Grumm 30% are a lot of users...

    @EpicofGilgamesch
    May I suggest to use the picture element (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US...)? When given multiple images (Avif, webp, JPEG) the browser chooses "the best" for itself.

    @C0D4 Big 4 my ass. Take Safari out of that list

    @nitnip 👀
    So every "i" device is not a problem?

    That's being no better then @EpicofGilgamesh cutting out a large chunk of the market.
  • 1
    @C0D4 I do want to include everyone, that's why I was really surprised when edge couldn't render any images

    @C0D4 That's like saying you don't support windows just because you don't care about internet explorer/edge's quirks.

    Safari's only use is to download a better browser.
  • 0
    @nitnip until those "better" browsers don't have native support for different things and you end up back in safari anyway - that pisses me off more then anything.

    So out of force, safari still holds the I device to ransom.

    @C0D4 Microsoft browsers have a history of not having native support for most things
