First job. Started 2 weeks ago, I'm doing an internship in a Web development company and even though my studies were mainly for Java and Android, it's going fine.
Past week I learnt to use .less and HTML5 and will start with Javascript now.

From what i could tell being a java dev will bring you bigger paychecks than as a web dev.. i think it's hard to get a job as java dev after doing web development.. if your java skills are still fresh I'd recommend you to switch to java if possible..

@vortex What if he enjoys web dev and it's not all about the paycheck?

@sylflo just trying to help.. don't kill me.. i wish someone guided me when i first started..
I could go in 10 different directions but I took the first job i found and took a certain path without thinking ahead .. and years later.. it's really hard to switch to another lang as python or java without a lot of professional experience and get the same salary.. and sorry, but it os about the money, if it's a hobby you can do it for free.

When starting out you think about today.. but i think it's the right thing to think about the future and where you want to be in 5 years.. 10..

Btw you can easily find a bunch of web dev jobs that will suck your soul as well... I have a buddy who's in love with java.. go figure.

@sylflo every work place is different and of course, it's important to enjoy your job. If a person can do it with multiple languages then it's good idea to make a conscious decision in the beginning of the career.. unlike me. But hey, I'm doing not bad at all

Thanks for all guys, the thing is I'm doing the internship as erasmus so I'm in another country. I'd like to stay here if they want me in the company when I finish (they've done it previously). The job as Web developer it's not bad but I like more the job as backend. Would it be too hard to find a job as Java developer after a couple years working as Web? I'd really like to stay in this country.

@MarioC in my personal opinion only.(!!) I think it's harder, but not impossible. in few years you won't remember what you learned, won't be updated with all the progress that has been made in the field and won't have any real experience working with java, and then you lose your edge.. you can find a job as a junior again and go up, but it's hard to agree to a much lower salary after getting a big one as a web dev with 4-5 years experience.. it'll be tough to agree to that..
I know some companies claim in their job applications that they'll accept someone with work experience from "one of the following" (php/python/java/.net)

    haven't tried it myself..
Why I'm pushing so hard on this java thing.. it's because it feels like a more secure choice for the future .. vs.. let's say php

I don't know, I think I must meditate about it during the next three months. For now I'd like to stay in the country. Even if that means working as Web developer for a while.
    Thanks.
