dan-pud8593y1-1s should focus on anything BUT your current tasks. Management stuff, company performance, your dog, Gloria's wierd aroma, whatever. You should bring topics to discuss, even personal ones if your relationship is good.
I personally take the time to focus on me and how the company is going to make me better. Upcoming training, upcoming projects, conferences (speaking or attending), etc. -
pumperrr333yI’ve always wondered about that. My one on ones has always been technical and how are my tasks are progressing.
I did try bringing up work I’m interested in doing (and not doing) a couple of times in the past but nothing has materialized out of it. Maybe I’ll try keep dropping it during one on ones -
They should be about how you feel, your training needs, whether you’re finding the work interesting, stuff like that. I suppose technical tasks can be talk about in the context of you but the point of the one to one is that is about you not the work.
Sadly I’ve not had a manager who understands this for about 3 years now
What do you guys talk about during 1 on 1?
For me it’s always about my current tasks
