@Christine I don't think they actually had a choice. But if they came across an understanding they could make it the most short hackathon ever.
Like:
-did you see that awesome hack?
-yep.
-do you want to implement it?
-not really.
-so..Beers?
-now you're talking.
It's a dream, I know -
@Christine lately I need a salary upgrade so I agree that there's always a choice but I also understand the opposite side.

Managers losing respect for you isn't the route to promotion. A groveling plebe who does anything to please his superiors reeks of desperation, not of self assured talent which needs high compensation for retention.
Putting up with bullshit just signals that you will continue to put up with bullshit. -
@Christine I totally agree with you. But sometimes you just really need the money.

@lostinmyworld I suppose. I live frugally so that I'll never be in that position. Always good to be able to say FU, and know that it doesn't matter if they call your bluff, because it isn't a bluff. My employer needs me more than I need them, which is a nice position to be in. The opposite, and equally important, side of that coin of course is to make sure you kick ass during business hours. This is turning into a bit if a ranting manifesto, but it's something I feel patiently about. Hate seeing my fellow devs abused.
