Can someone explain why weekends feel only 2 hours long in comparison to the rest of the week? I feel like I’m only beginning to relax and it’s a Sunday night.

Signs of being burnt out, or at least on the way.

Time flies when you’re having fun. It sucks and should be the other way around

You're stressed about work. Doesn't mean you are worried about losing your job, but it could mean you're not challenged correctly too.

Your serotonin levels have dropped, and your cortisol levels risen. You are probably sleeping less, eating more, and become irritable easier.

Chances are you're going through early stage burnout. I went through that over and over for the last two years. It used to only happen once a year.

If you want to stay at your current job, find a hobby. Set your office hours and work them. Spend as much time away from computers as you can for at least one day a week. Go to bed one(or more) hour(s) early at least one day a week.

You can extend your stay through burnoutville for a couple years this way.

Or, find a new job. One that appreciates you, and challenges you need in ways that you want to be challenged.

The week lasts about a month — unless there are deadlines, in which case it lasts about three days.

Weekends are gone in what feels like six hours.

Also: I am totally, completely burned out. And depressed, too. Life is a joy, or so I’m told.

    @sariel That’s very good advice.

Maybe try to stop drinking coffee. I used to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of coffee every day at work until I realized that coffee doesn't make you sleep less, you have to make up for it in your free time on the weekends. And I just don't get paid for that.
It took several months before I was able to work and live without caffeine as I had done with it.

I hope that in 2-3 years all the companies in the world will have a four-day week

@kraator the only problem here is that I want to spend my weekends doing smth great, visiting my parents/friends, etc.
And when I sleep till 2pm I feel broken, cause I spend my weekend for sleeping :(

@FirstPlayer you just need to learn to like sleeping the whole weekend. Who needs a life anyway. Fuck life.

@kraator I don’t drink coffee, so I’m ahead of the curve there. Probably should get my night owl tendencies under control, though. I do like to stay up late, especially on weekends, and do hobby stuff. But sleep needs priority if I’m gonna be mentally on my game.

@FirstPlayer I had a 4-day work week at a prior job. And the employer used it as an excuse to ride us even harder because we were, in HR’s mind, getting the benefit of a 3-day weekend. Most stressful job I ever had. And I was paid 6 figures and great benefits. They make you pay for that good stuff in other ways.
