    I repeat this quite often but it's on-topic so I'm gonna say it again. A boss of mine (dev too) used to work for corporate for a long time and once thing he kept telling us was "Appearance is everything" and he was right.

    Nothing matters except what the end-user/client sees.

    @Hazarth it was true until data protection laws... Clients don't know shit about attack surfaces and secure development, but if you drop the ball on any of those they will end up seeing it on the news. And be angry.

    A pretty UI draws users in in the short term.

    To keep those users in the long term, you also need short load times, good data validation, routes which connect in predictable ways, professionally translated copy, database availability & recoverability, account security, resolve race conditions, keep the servers running and scaling, etc.
