If you have 16 gigs of RAM and if fill it up with 16 gigs of chrome tabs, what's the problem? Capacity is there to be used no?
-
@12bitfloat and if we used 100% of our brain there would be nothing left to control our breathing, our heart, etc etc. we physically cannot use 100% as it would kill us
-
Voxera113883yThat 10% is a misconception in many cases.
Sure we are only using a small part at a time but different parts of the brain specializes on different tasks and only those that are needed work hard enough to be measured.
Parts containing memories will mostly work when trying to retrieve those memories.
If everything was working all the time we would over heat and probably starve. -
@ScribeOfGoD What. Point is if you have the resources you can use them. If you only use 10% of your brain you're wasting 90% of available capacity
-
JsonBoa30143y@12bitfloat can you drive at 100% capacity of your car's engine at all times?
Heh, I wish I could pedal at 100% of my leg's capacity at all times, but I would probably crash at the first turn.
Even phones are designed to leave most CPU cycles to nop, otherwise the chips would fry. The excess capacity is there for handling surge needs, not for the long run. -
Voxera113883y@kiki that depends on what you mean by those 10 %.
In most cases I hear it the idea is that the other 90 % is just garbage with no real value and that if we could access it we would be super intelligent.
But if its only that different parts is used in different situations then we are using it all, just not all at once.
And due to specialization we would mot be able to increase our intelligence by using it all since we them would need to sacrifice other abilities.
A bit like some people with savant syndrome do. -
kiki352823y@Voxera gosh, the only thing I wanted to say is that 100% of the brain is at our disposal in one way or another, no matter if we realize it or not, because keeping the brain working is very very very costly in terms of energy, and evolution doesn't like spending energy points on things that serve no purpose.
-
kiki352823y@Voxera TIL that in adults 20% of all energy released daily is consumed by the brain alone
-
10 percent of brain power? Seems like someone quoted the recent movie Lost City and tried to appear as a smartass :D

yeah, no shit, now go to your computer and launch 400 chrome tabs. Congrats, now you're using 100% of your computer performance. Does it work well now? Quick and snappy innit?
fucking muppets.
