novasurp543yYou know Chrome was based on Safari right?
What do you think of Orion and GNOME Epiphany? -
j0n4s53103y@novasurp and webkit(safari) is based on KDE's rendering engine but chrome's existence is unacceptable too and all that shit based on chromium.
-
@deadlyRants if it means just one browser, I'm up for it. Sack the rest off. Just pick one people.
-
Safari, the reality check for the wet dreams of web devs who claim that web is the superior platform for frontend applications.
-
laceytech753yI hate the fact that Apple stopped allowing Windows or Linux users the ability of installing it.
If you had an issue you had to have an iDevice in order to test it or a hackintosh virtual machine. -
I hate the monopoly of Chrome, but if I am to support a browser it must support my OS first.
-
novasurp543y@laceytech WebKit is on Linux: https://webkit.org/downloads/
No one bothers maintaining the Windows port. -
@kiki firstly because the Safari on Windows, Linux etc is just a weak port of the iOS version.
Secondly...WebKit!!! Yuck.
Thirdly, I'm starting to see odd little "patches" to webkit that just don't work as well as chromium or firefox.
and...sorry...it's just slower than other browsers.
It is now the Internet Explorer of browsers. -
@Oktokolo I can't. There's always some client finding a unique Safari-only issue. It reminds me of IE 6 back in the day.
-
kiki353163y@ojt-rant I'm not sure if I understand. Slower, yes, weak point, etc., but you have the choice not to use it. But yes, that's a dumb thing to say on my side, and you're probably angry at me already, and I guess the problem is _other people_ using Safari.
What's the matter? Something you make breaks in Safari while working in other browsers? -
@kiki when developing for clients one rarely gets a choice not to atleast test using Safari.
-
kiki353163y@ojt-rant yes, you're right. Forgot about this one, as I'm biased having a Mac.
I implied you were mad because things you made that worked good on Gecko and Blink were somehow broken by WebKit, as that's the most common complaint I hear. -
@kiki it sometimes comes down to which device is being used with Safari. These days it's not often I get a complaint that something doesn't look right or work right on Firefox or Chrome, or on a sepcific device using one of those two browser.
Surprisingly Edge never gives me problems (although possibly because I'm the only one with it installed on a mobile device :)...Im going to say it...I quite like it ) -
@dontbeevil every time that someone rationally advocates for Safari, even though they don‘t like or use it personally, there are people screaming "Apple fanboy" and "Safari is the new IE"…
-
@Lensflare Apple fanboy or not, it really is the new IE. Something has to be, and the Safari traits match closer than the rest.
-
@dontbeevil @Lensflare All love, guys. I'm just ranting because Apple products are doing my head in again :)
-
@dontbeevil there are rants about everything more or less equally. My point is that ranting about Safari is perfectly fine. But it grinds my gears if you are labelled Apple fanboy when you say something positive about Safari. 🙂
-
@Lensflare sticking up for Safari doesn't necessarily make you a fanboy.
Buying a special cloth from Apple...that might :) -
@ojt-rant even when I use it to wipe my ass? 😂
Just kidding. Even I would probably see such people as fanboys 😄
The continued existence of Safari web browser is unacceptable.
