    What he meant was Microsoft and Windows are two complete different companies that are working together because of some agreement or something like that.
    He gave the reference of Sony and Ericsson.

    @sam9669 would actually be Apple and OS X/MacOS. Sierra would be the version number similar to 10 for Windows.
