@Lensflare yeah on the same server ;P you're not understanding I'm ranting more about distrust of centralized file storage :P
look what happened to google photos multiple times. -
I get it, decentralization is the shit. But TBH I would trust GH 1000x over not to disappear over a random dude hosting a repo. The only type of decentralization that I would support here is a GH-to-peer replication model, in effect crowdsourcing repo backups

@webketje specifically i don't like that certain well known oss products went to github fully.

@webketje ooooOooOoOOo sha256 binary tree for file content comparison and duplicate detection :)

If I am not wrong there is a paid version github to host your own server.
Well since it is a git anyone can host their own repo if they wanted. -
@mr-user that's like saying Google photos has paid storage
Then they delete your account if you miss your bill and don't sign in for awhile lol -

There are gitlab and other options. My point is that there are options.
Until there is a good reason people may not switch to other. -

I do not see the problem with it. My electricity may be cut off (after a grace period) if I do not paid my ultility bill. -
realngnx1462yI see no big problem as it's still git, you can just mirror your code to as many git servers as you want, therefore it's still decentralised by definition, it's just a matter of you taking action or not.

You need to change how you explain thing based on the person you are explaining it to.
GitHub should allow server linking and social content downloading for repo authors to encourage people to still host their own repositories
This centralization is like everybody using Gmail
Some asshole deletes everything and we're all fucked
