Im in to vim because its fit my desktop setup.
I can do 99.99% in my desktop setup like change window position and size, browse web, explore file, view picture by using only keyboard. (My setup is Arch + i3wm, vim, vimfx)
(Edit text with vim is more comfortable than grab a mouse and select a line btw) -
Jeeter1788yI like using vim for quick edits to files so that I don't have to wait for intellij to load up. Other than that I am pretty solidly in the IDE camp, tbh

7Raiden8758yYeah I use con for instant editing as well, or when I have a project open on my IDE and don't want to load too much stuff!
Still, one thing is editing a file, one other is to use in the same framework editing + gdb + nice GUI -
-eth18448yStill, I yet have to find another really complete editor that lets you load a full fledged interface inside a terminal through an ssh connection...

7Raiden8758yI haven't tried VS code yet. I can tell Eclipse thus far is behaving well though! And I've used VS with C# for 2 years and VS with C++ for 1. The passage hasn't been smooth at all xD

vhoyer13318ysincerely, 50% because I liked the "don't get your hands of the keyboard" 50% because I liked the war xD

But, honestly, it's a nice editting experience and I'm only a ctrl-z away from any command-line tools I may need.
I do use IDEs for large project navigation until I'm familiar with the structure though. IDEs have been more helpful to me in that way. -
Vims good when you're on a Linux box over ssh. Other than that ides are the way to go.

How come all decent IDEs come with a (terribly broken, incomplete) vim mode? Oh yeeeeah

Although I see how powerful Vim (with all its variants) is, I still don't get why people are so into it.
I mean, it's 2017, we have IDEs and some of them are very good, such as VS for C#, Eclipse for C++ and so on!
