Are any of you afraid getting a tooth pulled will bar you from decent paying work ?

Are you pulling it with a crowbar?

I'm more worried that if I nail a pig to my head people won't let me eat ice cream or invent any new cat dances.

@spongegeoff you'd be surprised what people are like in the USA
    Stupid is the word

I had two jobs where nobody ever turned on their camera…

@jeeper and .... What did that mean ? To the job ?

@jeeper or was that a less obvious and rather inane attempt to make fun like spongeoff ?

@spongegeoff btw what is being sponged off you ?

@AvatarOfKaine no I just mean from my interview to my last day it was fully remote and I never even had a call with my camera on with my team. I would never recognize them. The never saw my face. One tooth missing or no teeth they woulda never known. It will never substantially effect you to be missing a tooth if you got the programming skills.

@AvatarOfKaine I'm living as an homage to the world's greatest sponge

    Behold... greatness.

    @jeeper that's kind of lucky
Course the only reason I worry is the present time period is embracing a rather stupid class system
They'd probably expect me to be fatter too

@spongegeoff that horrifies me when fully grown men display images of spongebob

@AvatarOfKaine I think you are being your own harshest critic. Are you in North America? The vast majority of companies are moving to a way more inclusive hiring model, trying to be more blind to disability, race, physical appearance, gender, etc. YMMV at any individual company of course, but physical appearance is low in the priority of concerns for a dev. If you have to go on site I mean shower and wear clean clothes that aren’t pajamas but beyond that it shouldn’t be a burden. If a company makes you feel bad about appearances, they aren’t actually trying to acquire the best talent anyway and probably have at least some toxic aspects of their culture.

@jeeper the opening line of that is the same as last time

@AvatarOfKaine I’m just saying if a tooth is causing you pain and pulling it is the best option get that sucker pulled. It won’t affect your career prospects in the software industry in a substantial way. If you really hate it you can get an implant later.

Or just see if there’s another option like a crown.

The dentist can make a temporary crown in a few hours that can be good for several months while a permanent one is cast.

Either way health first, appearances later

@jeeper yeah have been trying to get it pulled. without completely bankrupting myself.

they've been putting it off and putting it off. would rather give me antibiotics over and over.

saves them having to devise a new series of life traps from the consistent reminder of how a whole tooth went missing.
