    @thebiochemic Indeed, some cable headphones have a potentiometer unit attached to the cable.

    @thebiochemic One of the five physical switches that should be present on every electronic device if it intends to give the illusion that the user is in control:

    Power switch with physical off state / removable battery
    RF switch with physical off state
    Camera cover that doesn't impede unrelated functions
    Microphone switch with physical off state
    Volume potmeter

    @lbfalvy that's very true.

    I have solved the problem on my System with having a volume knob on the audio interface, where the headphones are attached to, and the master slider of a midi controller, which is polled via script.
