I wouldn’t be surprised if 50% of systems at major companies are redundant and/or provide zero contribution to operational efficiency or revenue. So many systems are created because someone had an “idea”, but really just wanted to make themselves look good.

In the end when something isn't your baby isn't that what we all do ? The system encourages innovation but discourages r and d.

Because tinkering with the best way of doing things takes time and money and let's face it devs are always on the "cut them if possible" list because they're expensive

But yes I agree that some of these illusory innovations could be real ones if the world only invested in progress which jt doesn't

@AvatarOfKaine Fair point, if it’s my system it’s needed 🤣 What drove this rant was getting out of a meeting where I learned the team is taking an entire copy of an existing system’s source code and database and using it to create a nearly identical system for another department. They are doing this because they don’t want to modify the existing system for the new requirements (and that system was just built from scratch too!) I don’t understand these things and they make me angry.
