Does that mean software developers should earn as much as Leonardo Di Caprio too?
-
Don't agree with the quote. Being a dev i think it should be somewhat expected for us (and damn useful) to know our way around the hardware we work on. I wouldnt want some IT hardware guy to come mess with my rig if something doesn't work. We all should know the basics to get by. Like a race car driver to know a bit about mechanics, strippers about pole verticality and irs guys about staplers.
As for leonard and my tv. It's a bit of a more distant analogy. I could elaborate, but typing on a phone keyboard mainly sucks. -
@pagongski partly its correct, but you can't always do a hardware related stuff. Its so annoying.
-
-eth18448y@pagongski knowing your stuff around HW is absolutely invaluable, and no, I don't want anyone messing with my rig either, but damn if I get called again to unjam paper from a printer...
-
@thebinaryfool no, obviously not. I mean tge least functional knowledge so you don't waste 3 hours for someone to come fix your ethernet cable.
-
Leo should fix my TV he broke it with that sinking ship and everything that followed
-
@pagongski Preach! I agree with this completely. I am especially tired of people calling themselves full-stack developers while saying it's not their job to care about hardware; if I'm not mistaken hardware is a pretty important part of the "full stack"
-
I build my own computers and I troubleshoot and fix my own issues where I can. That said...
"My pc has been running really slow, maybe you can have a look at it for me?"
No, just no. -
@juniordev when you tell them what it will really take to make their shitty Best buy gateway run like it should they will get scared and never ask for help again. They biggest part of my beef is when people say "I'm a full stack web developer not a network/IT/Hardware person"...fuck you this is why you can't find a job. Get your hands dirty, make yourself invaluable, show that you are multifaceted, and get the fuck over yourself...
