Ooh, I'd advise against. It takes a long time to save up, goes quicker than you'd think. And then you're screwed.

I have very low expenses (having a communal landlord helps a lot with that!) and basically a "runway" of at least 2-3 years in liquid savings, plus I can expect 60% of my net income as jobless money (assuming bureaucracy agrees), which isn't much but enough. So I'd say I'm quite safe financially. But you're right that one shouldn't make that decision too quickly!

Certainly not great for min-maxing my assets, but life & health is more important for me right now. With a reasonable amount of working experience I also expect to be able to get a shit-tier job very easily if I'd really have to. But for now I'll rather take it a bit easier and look for an EiWoMiSau.

@Grumm I'd suggest to at least start looking for something new - it's arguably easier while still employed, because then you don't need to explain why you already quit. Hiring times can range wildly but expect at least 3-4 weeks from application to last (sometimes even first) interview. My experience with Belgium corporates is eternal slowness btw ;)

I'm only taking this step because I really want a 2+ months break and am very much okay not getting something immediately. Otherwise I'd have staid and put in minimum/average work.

@saucyatom An other problem why I think about it and not doing it is the money.

Here in Belgium, If I quit, I do not get the jobless money. (If you get fired, yes)

Maybe I should just start looking for a new job. But I like the job (the programming) Just a senior who refuses to do his job or even try to improve stuff.

@Grumm same in Germany, except when your doctor gives you a written recommendation to quit your job.

(It was recommended to me already 2 years ago, but I didn't see the relation between my health issues and the job at that time.)

@Grumm It's not all that bad I guess, but if you ask me when I've last been happy in my job for more than a few days I probably need to go back quite a few years.. However I can't say that it's just my job/employer being terrible, I also need to better myself. I try not to brood about the past too much and look forward.

@saucyatom best option is just living in the present and not "looking" back / forward as much as possible. The back must be only of use not to repeat any mistakes ( forget about the regret and other aspects of it ). The future should be only for inspirations ( setting goals and not hard plans ). And living in the moment for me means to enjoy the little things in your life that makes you happy and try to prolong them while you can. That's my simple philosophy about living a good life =]

They fire me, I can get something.

My personal situation is ok. But still don't really want to be without job to long.

Getting a note from the doctor will not work. (it is my senior who is not doing his job)

For now, I escalated the situation once more. Wondering if management will do something about it...

But even at the moment, my senior is not at his desk doing stuff that he isn't supposed to do and users are still waiting for him to fix the shit he broke. And I am getting stressed of this situation...
