College student here! Starting to learn java, best ide to use?

Why don't you try the Oracle way -- Netbeans? It's quite good you know.

Since you are a student, I'd definitely recommend going for a (free) professional license of all JetBrains products. You'll have IntelliJ and many other beautiful IDEs :)

Also, if you really want to learn java well, as soon as you get to maven. Try setting up SonarQube. It's not trivial but it is a huge help when learning.

I use eclipse but everyone is gonna say intellij

That being said, if you wanna try server stuff, eclipse has built in servers

When I was at University​ we used netbeans, and I loved it because I found out about how you can revert changes made in code, which was originally hidden for me :D saved me so many times

Whichever IDE you decide on, find a super user tutorial. Keyboard shortcuts and history changes ftw

I was a big fan of Eclipse for Java but if you're doing Android dev with Java, Android Studio is ofc 2nd to none.

I'd say IntelliJ. Since you are a college student, if u have a college mail address, you can use that to obtain a professional version free for 1 year. And after one year, you can ask your friend from other branches to get u a key. If your institute doesn't have a mail, you can go for the free version anyways..
