I often struggle with procrastination, finding myself getting lost in TikTok and YouTube shorts for hours on end or even staying in bed doing nothing, even when I have important deadlines to meet.

Have you attempted to overcome procrastination before? If so, what approaches have you found effective, and which have not worked for you?

In my case, that tends to happen when I set my goals do grandiose that they seem way too far off, and thus I lose motivation.

For me, what works is setting small, achievable goals that can be achieved in 2/3 days most, like learning a specific solo, adding a new feature, practicing a new kata, and so on.

When I do it that way it's easy to stay motivated because you start seeing results soon, and those results often enable other possibilities, driving further motivation.

Once you get going, don't stop even if it means working overnight.

Try to get the thing you're supposed to do next to a point where you actually need to think how you will approach it. There's no point procrastinating something you can do in a minute. Ideally, you should have some information about the thing so your brain can really process it while you procrastinate. This is very difficult to achieve, but in that case procrastination wouldn't be lost work.

Also, maybe try promising yourself that you only do some small thing and get back to bed after. No sure if that can help but whatevs.

I can't understand how anyone can stand short form videos. Those are the most annoying thing I know of.

@electrineer Unfortunately for me, Shorts are a highly addictive form of video content that I have come across. It's easy to keep swiping through an endless circle of content.

@GiddyNaya I watched them for a while but they are so repetitive, I stopped watching them. I can’t stand those stupid challenges.

I’m actually quitting YouTube this month lol. I think we have to acknowledge to ourselves that we will never be perfect, but we can always set a perfect vision of ourselves to guide us in the right direction. For instance, I have a lot of drug addictions that I’m working on rn, but it will get better. Eventually you might reach that best vision of yourself, so might as well keep working on it. For me what reduces my procrastinating is quitting media consumption, meditation, taking short breaks throughout the day, journaling, and exercising everyday. The most progress we will make with goals is doing it especially when we don’t feel like it.
