What legislation exactly? I've heard similar things on big booboo's on the internet but every one of those laws solve nothing but create problems. I'm very wary about these things.

The problem on laws on fake news is, who decides whats fake?

Most of the time the phrase is used to try to hide truth or similar and even with the best or worst intentions it can go wrong.

@Voxera The Ministry of Truth or someone designated by the Ministry of Truth decides what is fake news and what isn't. Alternatively, the Ministry of Truth creates the most fuzzy rules imaginable to decide about the truthyness of news and private companies then assume the role of the Ministry of Truth implementing them without any way of appeal.

@Voxera yeah, but the way things are right now the disinformation is rampant. it's better to have some action than none. the way we do things the truth is already decided by the news outlets, so i don't see the difference in transferring from the private sector to the public sector

Calling it "fake news regulation" is disingenuous use of language intended to sugarcoat CENSORSHIP. We can be sincere about our intentions. If they are good intentions to us, why hide them? They are nice enough to be put in plain words.

I have learned that the MSM has been fake news since before I was born. Government and media organizations have been lying for at least 100 years. They don't like it when individuals show how they lie. So this will drive laws as they try to censor opposing opinion. MSM is dying and this is their last lash out against the truth.

@Demolishun it was because of fake news that a pseudo fascist was elected here back in 2018. we're talking about things that can be easily disproved with evidence. most regular news outlets here have to issue "x news was fake" constantly. if duck duck go can filter that stuff without anyone making them google can too

@nururururu i personally dislike an american corporation meddling on brazilian affairs, specially since americans had a huge role in the military coup of 1945. it really doesn't matter if they think it's right, they have no business lobbying anywhere, much less here

There is just way too many governments trying to do shit and way too many things Google is trying to do, it’s hard to tell what refers to what.

@darksideofyay I'm pretty fine with any foreign company that tries to help Brazil in preventing advances towards authoritarianism. I would support any foreign actor that tried to bring down the government if we became fully socialist. Mob rule "democracy" can't be respected if it steps over individual freedom.

Interestingly enough, there seems to be very little outrage with Globo supporting the censorship law proposal. And Google may be foreign, but at least it's a publicly owned company, it has by law the simple responsibility of making its investors, who can be you and me, more money. Globo is privately owned by a very small family clique, it follows whatever their interests may be. The fact that it's Brazilian doesn't make much of a difference when the little clique can move its wealth wherever it wants. Why is it so hard to be outraged against Globo? Is this circumstantial, because they support the government, even though the censorship law will give *them* more power?

I could only find old stuff and how Google is trying to use AI to combat fake news. That is why I asked for the actual legislation.

Most fake news isn't fake and isn't news.

It's spin.

People spin facts to create the narrative they want to sell. Spin too hard and it's noticable.

How the hell do you effectively legislate that.
