@Mrcheese I dont know. Maybe yoi ciuld state that you could get one in your letter? Does the visa cost money? Otherwise you maybe should consider one before you apply.
-
The living costs are too high in Australia, if you think you can manage the spendings, then you can go with the visa first option.
Otherwise, I suggest you to a find a job first. Good luck.

Yeah, allot of money £400 around.
I'll have a play on seek and other job places. -
@Mrcheese Then I would apply for some jobs without and see if you have a chance without visa...
-
There are plenty of companies here that sponsor developers from abroad. Melbourne and Sydney would give you your best chances. Brisbane has a few, and is a smaller (more relaxed) city.
If you're confident/capable enough at what you do, you can consider researching for those roles and get easy enough entry.
Cost of living here is pretty high, but your salary expectations (after passing your mandatory time at the sponsoring company) are pretty nice as well. -
Storm357yWay more than £400 mate. More like £1500+.
Also, visa skills reqs are probs changing soon. If they do and the job you're going for isn't on the list.. sponsored or not, you're out.

the visa itself is 400, but you need over 2000 AND to prove you can support youself. -
Huuugo25057yI came to Australia 4 months ago on a Working Holiday Visa. Been applying for jobs since the beginning. Some tips from my experience:
- 90% rejection based on the visa. People hate WHV
- Skilled visa is expensive but way better accepted by companies
- If you are not a senior dev, almost nobody will interview you from overseas
- Apply at the companies, not recruiting companies. They all suck. Only 2/10 sole recruiters actually care about you.
- write a long extensive resume (2-4 pages) and have it in word. Some people explicitly ask for word files over PDF
- Australians care about your years of experience and skills. School or references don't matter
