Cudnt agree more... Linux seriously needs some standardization... There is just waaaayyyyyy too much options for its own good... (Qt vs GTK... Pulse audio, alsa... Xorg, wayland...) It just looks tooo... Unmanaged. And everything is so scattered... I love linux but this is one thing linux can definitely improve on. Especially the graphical backend and sound drivers (for all i know)

I like it. Gives me choice. When I was new to it, it was confusing. But now I can choose what I need and use that. For me, right now, Elementary OS does it. It's non-obtrusive lightweight UI works well and without bugs. I like the unique multi-desktop management in a multi-screen setup. If only it was as customizable as KDE and optimized screen space well like Unity. But alas, those are trade-offs I was ready for in order to get a nice, clean, stable OS, with very little shit installed that I don't need.

Also the default terminal rocks. No more Ctrl+Shift+V or Ctrl+Shift+C. Regular Ctrl+V and Ctrl+C (only when you select stuff) work. And its default profile is nice looking, although it's kinda bad when using in colored terminal programs, as some colors are too close to see a difference.

@apisarenco oh i love the choice in distros... But not so with the backend frameworks... It jst feels like the windows arent uniform looking and resources r being wasted on continuing something which really isnt needed... *Cough* gtk *cough*
Thats jst wat i think though 😉🙂

@Electrux true. App integration with UIs is horrible most of the times. But any alternative to this would be even more horrible. An alternative would mean that app developers have to develop integration with each window decorator, or that all but one desktop environments must be abandoned.

I just wish there was a KDE customizable to behave like Unity, but on Wayland, with stellar graphics performance, and as lightweight as LXDE.
Right? I want to have the cake and eat it too. Don't we all?

@apisarenco yea ur right haha... Personally i'd really like the abolishment (correct word i hope) of xorg and gtk... I think qt and wayland will b good enuf... But alas... Wayland isnt there yet 😭

@Electrux it's there on Gnome 3. Ubuntu runs it, although not as stable as Fedora.

@apisarenco by isnt there i mean it isnt fully working as its supposed to... It uses xorg as its back end so... Yea

@Electrux no no, it has both. But by default it's Wayland. Maybe unless you use an nVidia card. I use Intel. All works fine :)

@apisarenco oh i meant wayland uses xorg as backend haha... And yea... I use nvidia in my awesome optimus laptop (sarcasm intended) haha
