Personally, I find the Cinnamon Desktop more Windows-like than Mate. I understand Mate, but I like the Windows shortcuts a lot and Cinnamon has them...

@RiderExMachina But cinnamon isn't that resource friendly or is it? Their laptop is pretty shit so I had to go with something simple and not so demanding.

It's about the same as Gnome3: 1GB base on idle.

If you want something Windows-like but less resource intensive, I'd say Korora XFCE. Fedora based means anything with an RPM package will install, and it looks a lot like Windows
