Why do you use linux and not windows?

Use both, can't leave gaming (though not really a hardcore gamer).
Use Linux for mostly everything else: scripting, VMs, browsing stuff

Open source source and ability to make it whatever the funk I want.

I don't care which one I use. can do pretty much all I need on both.

I have both but I use manjaro on my (very old) laptop cuz it runs nicely and lets me turn down the display brightness way further than windows does. Also when I got the laptop it came with vista installed, so yeah. part of it might be also a slight bit of hatred towards windows. Mainly cuz 8 and 10 don't want to run properly on my desktop so I have to stick to good old 7. Wonder how long that'll last 😅

Linux runs much more smoothly and quickly for me. Also, the ease of installing own source software is a major point for me (sudo apt-get install / sudo pacman -S).

I hate the reboot dialogs after an simple office update and the need to search an second computer for a fucking hdd driver.
And i like the free programs.

Windows 10 has this developer tools which also contains ubuntu like terminal with proper linux environment.. You better check it out @devilowl

I installed Linux when I built my first PC cos it was free and I couldn't afford a Windows license... In fact the whole PC was cobbled together from cheap spare parts from friends, into some weird Frankenstein's monster of a machine... But it was mine.

And it was either wait for weeks to save up for a windows license (back then it was dial up internet only, it'd have taken longer to download an illegal copy of windows than to save up and buy) or install a Linux OS from a magazine.

So Linux it was and... I actually liked it, never went back to windows. If that works for you, great but I know and am familiar with Linux, I don't want to learn windows, I like what I grew up with.

Im using windows for gaming and multimedia stuff, but using linux for work. But i would switch to linux completely, if i could

I dualboot both...

I use both, but since I migrated my arch from vm to dual boot ( for the speed improvements and driver support ) I use it 85 - 90% of the time (gaming == Windows)

Also alot of the time I like being in control of my distro and know how and why it works. But sometimes I also just want to chill and not worry about freakin kernel panics, going through journalctl and search hours to find out why watchdog can't be stopped or why my xorg hard locks my pc occasionally on dm start.

So why do I use it : control, speed, self educating, fun.

Why do I use Windows : when Linux won't boot up and I'm not in the mood to fix it, gaming, Photoshop.

Windows to design graphics ,edit videos play games ,Linux to code and (main reason why I use Linux is cos the games are so 😪 I'll just resume coding out of annoyance )

Computer shut down and didnt come back during windows update. So i raged and pulled out my emergency linux usb stick and saved few files, then installed linux mint

I actually have a dual boot on ly computer with both of them installed. I use Windows to play heavy games and to use a computer without having to think, and Ubuntu when I need to work and play around with packages I've heard of on the internet. Right now, I don't have a favourite one but I can't see myself working on a project with Windows anymore

It's a lot more developer-friendly and more lightweight

Because i hate error log on windows, that's really annoying

-not having that surveillance feeling
