Hi all, just signed up and wanna let you know that you are all great. Didn't see any kind of hate or disrespect here at all, so thanks for being a great community:)

Of course I'd also like to get some opinions here. Tomorrow, I'll get my new PC and am wondering what Linux distros you are using and especially WHY it is your favorite..

I will mainly develop on it in C and Java and will most likely choose Debian, just because I'm used to it.

Just Windows! It's superior anyways!

Well... Since ur used to Debian, ur better off using it.

Personally, I prefer Arch.
Initial setup is time consuming... But other softwares and packages r so easy to get... Literally everything is available on AUR 😍
For Desktop Environment, I prefer Mate because it works correctly for all laptop shortcut buttons ( the volume, brightness controls ). But I m gonna try i3 too coz it's so interesting!

Oh and enjoy the Linux ride... It's so much fun 😄

I've been using elementary os mostly because it works well with my laptop and runs pretty smooth. besides that Manjaro bungie because it is arch based and I like arch.

I'd also recommand Arch Linux if you are already familiarized with Linux shell. But if you want to avoid the installation, you can use Antergos (GUI installer) or even Archanywhere (CLI installer).

I'm using that "OSX" distro...

If I didn't need it for work I'd be using one of the things the other guys in this thread have mentioned.

Well okay I'm sure that's not what you're after, but that's exactly why I want to say it xD I'm on Gentoo, because I have the finest control about what my computer is doing and what is really installed on it. Performance are nice too, and I like the open source friendly aspect. And sometimes I have to use the last build for a software (like gcc) and there is some nice people which made overlay which allow me to install that fucking gcc from source with one command line :D oh there is also some specific tools for cross platform dev, but I don't use them that much. And a lot of other things but this comment is already too long I think xD enjoy your new computer anyway ^^
