Probably doesn't help but I've heard something about this before and I think there's a driver or something that should help with that. Is it a Lenovo?

RTRMS36917y@balamu96m turns out mine was the nvidia official drivers, Google told me it should have option, including turning the code off, my guess is the card is running in more game mode than display mode.
Tried upgrading as my options are empty, that just broke everything and once I finally managed to get into terminal I nuked all of nvidia drives and went back to the neauvo or whatever it's called, ubuntu defaults and as far as I can tel gaming performance is better, my 2nd display works better (it would flicker if I played music via hdmi) and my battery life is now 30+ min longer than it was with Windows.

Pretty sure my battery life on Ubuntu is worse than it was on Windows. Takes more than twice as long to charge up and lasts half the time unplugged.
