When using Windows, I really feel like I don't own my computer. Like it'll update automatically without giving a single fuck wether you wish to install these updates on YOUR machine and install what Microsoft wants.

"Sup I'm the Windows update manager, seems like you're in the middle of some important work right now, let me just force reboot your machine and install some crap bloatware"

    True, Install linux (or turn off auto updates). Welcome btw!

    @Jifuna Thanks!
    Even though it is true you can turn off the auto updates, I find it still to be rather dangerous considering the millions of non-techy users who use Windows and just get everything Microsoft wants installed on their PC, it could be used for bad motives (if it's not already the case to some extent...)

    Personnaly, I've been using ArchLinux for about a year now and find it amazing, I feel like my computer truly belongs to me and I can do pretty much whatever suits my desires while learning a lot !

    @bjarne Nice. Yeah, completely agree with you. Luckily, Windows has already installed al there spyware. So it can't get any worse :p

    Apart from the whole "interrupting your work and erasing unsaved stuff", I'm actually all for it. Most users don't give a flying fuck about the security updates and will never apply them, up until the whole network is vulnerable and everything is on fire. User laziness is a confirmed obstacle to opt-in updates, and then people go whining about how they lost important stuff because they got hacked through a vuln patched 3 years ago

    Just go and install Linux, never update your OS and leave us Windows users in peace.

    @Jop- I have my Windows 10 desktop set to default as far as updates go. As much as I would complain about it using bandwidth whenever it feels like doing so if my internet wasn't so great , I never had one of the stupid reboots people complain about here. But yeah, if I was Microsoft, I'd go for "mandatory sec updates, opt-in for the rest"

    I update once or twice a month. It's never updated while I've used it. I've used Windows 10 since release

    @CptFox

    The problem with windows is not automatic security updates. I'm all for those.

    The problem is that:

    1. Unlike Linux, Windows needs to reboot to apply updates, and it affects reboot time significantly. This makes windows beyond annoying for professional use, where you need to be able to rely on stability and uptime.

    2. It's difficult to separate bloated feature updates from security updates. I might not care about bundled crap like cortana, movie maker or some cloud storage.

    3. Third parties have no simple way to hook into the update system, so each app needs to reinvent the wheel. This means you still have background services running, popups and dozens of wizards to click through each time a version is bumped — and still plenty of security holes.
