Nobody is interested in the pioneers and the early history of computing. We have to know our history in order to understand the present! I have friends which say that it's lousy to dive deep into the history but I enjoy it thoroughly.

@simo002m man, I love it. I don't know if it's just that I'm a history person but i find it so interesting and in a way romantic. We were able to do so much with so little.

The book "hackers" does a great job telling the history in a way that geeks appreciate and muggles can at least find interesting.

Most of the new things today is just old things rediscovered.

Maybe the biggest irony of all is that cloud computing is basically mainframe computing: everyone connects to a central computer. We've gone full circle

@kpenc It truly is fascinating. If you haven't seen it already, then you should definietly go and search "first unix system" on Youtube, just pick the first one(it should be called something like "at & t archives - the Unix operating system"), it's freaking amazing. And if you haven't already, then definietly go and check out a BBS, a good one is the diamond mine(I think it's one of the most popular BBS'es nowadays), to connect to it just type "telnet bbs.dmine.net" in your terminal/console.

@simo002m yeah I've watched that. It amazed me, except everything about the tech, just how cool Brian Kernighan is in that documentary. :)
