The not having kids doesn't only have to do with finance. Many people have such negative world view that they won't put a kid on it. I blame media for exploiting negative stuff. I still have the book "The rational optimist" somewhere. That book describes we're doing better than ever in sense of how much wars we have and trade.
I could spend ages on the subject, we should find a bar.
But whatever - having lost the urge to populate can't be good and feels unnatural -
@retoor Bingo about the not having kids. If you adjust your expectations, perceptions, perhaps also move to a cheaper location. Its doable and you can live happily.
The constant fear porn, negativity is what makes everyone depressed. When you are listenening to anybody you are buying into their worldview as well.
Realistically optimistic is under appreciated. -
@b2plane isn't every generation suffering less than previous in general? Life needs some suffering else you don't appreciate anything. There's a nice book about it called "Everything is fucked".

@jassole yeah, we don't have enough on our minds that we're reading the fear porn. It's a pure luxory. Few days ago I said that I don't read news and do not care about the subjects. I got called egoistic. Thou should care!

It's the culture of fear. I have permanent PTSD as the result of Trump being president. I haven't been right in the head since he left office. Jan. 6th screwed the lid on tight. I know I'm fucked because of my mantra to keep myself calm: It's allright, it's just another lifetime; it will be over soon enough.
& I was doing so well before my soul was ripped out of me.
I absolutely love how capitalism fell on its face when greed went far beyond anyone's imagination.
Corporate wants all the money to themselves and wants to give out as little to us peasants. Housing prices went beyond most people's reach. Banks almost never gives loans. Inflation and interest rates are up everywhere.
So now people are like "Alright I'll live in this rented flat and not have any kids" and now the birth rate is the lowest in the last 50 years and this is reducing the size of the talent pool for these companies.
I saw an interview of Elon Musk where he went like "We don't have an over-population problem, but its actually an under-population problem.", and this is the first thought that struck my head.
What rich people don't understand, is if they want to be rich and stay rich, a significant amount of people have to stay poor. And due to low birth rates, this isn't going to last long.
