I'll have to try it one of these days. I'm just too exhausted from switching to vscode last year.

VsCode is lightweight compared to Intellij.
More like comparing Photopea with photoshop. Intellij is a complete studio more than just an editor.

Do you realize that you claimed intellisense is so much better?

And that intellisense is what comes with visual studio?

 Weak fanboyism attempt.

Bibbit7022yTo be fair, I like the features of PyCharm and I can easily understand why people like IntelliJ: they are simply good fit-for-purpose IDEs. But somehow it's more cumbersome for me to work with this IDE when needing to switch between multiple repos and venvs in the same window/session. This is what VSC facilitates better IMHO and with some extensions it does almost everything PyCharm can (of what I use..) while being lighter on the resources/startup time.

Only thing I'm really missing though is the awesome refactoring functionality of PyCharm: basically the reason why I switch back to it once in a week for an hour lol

If IntelliJ consumed less than 15G RAM for 3 open windows, I would maybe consider switching to it.

But VS Code/ Codium with plugins achieve feature parity with IntelliJ and is much less resource-heavy.

I was also under the impression that package.json exports intellisense was lacking.

And if newfangled paradigms or niche templating libs are your thing (like the .astro syntax, and .mdx initially), there's a lot more chance of quickly finding a VS Code plugin than an IntelliJ one.

iceb10912yI don't think vscode is intended to be a full fledged ide so I expect it to work well for hobby level work. while pretty decent it isn't as great as an ide in terms of professional work iceb10912yI don't think vscode is intended to be a full fledged ide so I expect it to work well for hobby level work. while pretty decent it isn't as great as an ide in terms of professional work

I remember the python version autocompleting Django way better and the refactoring was boss

@b2plane I just like shit posts. I promote stupid stuff. I upvote almost every rant

@iceb I've been using VS Code professionally for years and it can definitely be used as an IDE. If anything, Jetbrains is following its lead of a lightweight core product + extensions with its Fleet software: https://www.jetbrains.com/fleet/

Coming from Visual studio and Intellij to VScode now.

There are things I have come to rely on these ides that are too flakey on vscode. Not saying it doesn't have the same feature set. They just don't work as reliably.

That's why I say it's decent. But not ideal.

I literally dont use any other code editor other than intellij. Yes not even your fucking vscode. I code frontend in intellij! I code angular and nextjs in intellij!! Intellij literally has everything anything else has plus way more. Intellisense is also much better. Theres also been a major update yesterday and everything is so much faster and smarter. And theme is way better looking. I will dick ride intellij till death do us apart!!!!
