agentQ23257yParticipate anyway. You can put it on your resume that you "participated" in a Hackathon.
-
endor56707yAgreed: go for it! It's a lot of fun anyway, and you'll get to learn a lot of things! And who cares if you don't win anything, just give it your best shot and be on the lookout for learning opportunities! (Speaking from firsthand experience)

LordDjigo957yAlways try, even if you don't know enough about it, you'll do after you participate at it!

World29697yI went for my first (and only yet) hackathon without even having a clear idea of what I was gonna do or what it was about. Had no friends, went alone. We were supposed to make teams to compete. And apparently everybody came in groups. They already had their teams. Met a few people I knew and even they had teams set. Heck they even had started the project. I was so furious and scared about what to do in the beginning. I mean you were supposed to do the entire thing during the hackathon and people were already half way through. I didn't know everyone does that in hackathons.
Fortunately, one guy had come all alone. He seemed to know what he was doing. Said he and his teams went to several hackathons but this time his team couldn't come because they had their final exams. So we teamed up. Found another lone wolf in the crowd and formed a pack. -
World29697yWe had two days to build something and we all played to our strengths...except me. I didn't know jack shit that was helpful. Did everything else and let them concentrate on their stuff; helped manage stuffs, make the slides for presentations, did some coding, yada yada. Apparently, we too had a project done half way so it was easy to complete.
The takeaway? Go. Meet some cool people and their ideas. Learn how to communicate and pitch your idea. If nothing else, at least you get a tshirt and a couple meals for free 😁 -
Having organized hackathons because I wasn't confident enough to participate, go to them. Do your best. The participants understand and will help you out as long as you at least try.

alcamore1487yGo even if you don't feel experienced enough, hackathons are really good at helping people who don't know much coding or that have no idea what they want to do find a good team.
No pressure to win anything, just have some fun trying to make something with your team and drink probably a bit too much coffee.
Good luck! -
