    Ironically, "everyone" includes the people who wrote the documents that explain the core internet technologies you used to post this rant, which are loaded with foobar.

    I'm curious about what you think these placeholders should be called, since that's like saying that the x in "x = 1 + 1" should be called something else.

    Unless the whole rant means something else, given that foo is a placeholder 😅

    sorry, i use "fuck", "shit", "this_bitch", "blah", "wtf" 😏

    Spam eggs ham!

    It should really be FU and BAR.

    But seriously foobar is a lot safer than the guy who exclusively used 4 later words and got fired.

    Interestingly everyone seems to replace the FOO with something negative. Why is that so? It certainly should be replaced with 'love' for example ;P

    Fubar is slang for "fucked up beyond all recognition", which describes many examples just too well.

    @justwellbrock well foobar is negative to start with.

    It's a bastardisation of FUBAR an old military saying meaning Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition.

    It was what they used to describe when someone caught the wrong end of a shell or grenade, etc.

    I do find it interesting how it has cemented itself inside the tech community.

    @elazar seriously this is the second time today that a rant hasn't refreshed for me and I've posted the exact same thing as someone else.

    It's not even like our posts are close together either.

    :(

    Sorry for duplicating.

    But you did not define FOO. What does it mean?

    @eArshdeep foo evolved as a polite alternate to fu they sound similar. The original meaning isn't widely known as foobar is now the general term.

    It's just an evolution of term as it has changed from a way to describe a horrific scene to a humorous variable stand in.

    You are witnessing the evolution of our language taking place. It's quite fascinating.

    @querellaMMXII Well thank you, I didn't knew about that :D

    @querellaMMXII But what about "Baz"?

    What you SHOULD be using are emojis. Almost too many emojis, if possible. Your lines of code should look like this:

    😀😁=😆(🤣😃)

    @Ashkin http://catb.org/jargon/html/...

    Basically, it probably originated in a late 40's comic strip.
