What browser does everyone use? I've been using Firefox and its pretty good mixed with DuckDuckGo I could ask for better, but people seem to love Chrome. What does everyone think should I try Chrome for a bit.

Well, I use Firefox in a daily basis on "my" 3 main devices: home laptop, mobile phone, and work laptop (hence the "").

But, I also use Chrome from time to time on my workplace (not quite sure why, now that I'm thinking about it). This applies also to Vivaldi, which I like more than Chrome TBH.

And, for the record, I've never been a fan of Chrome. Yes, I've tried some years ago, in a dark time when I had issues with Firefox (it was very sluggish, and in that time I didn't figured out why), but after a couple of weeks I decided that Chrome wasn't for me, and returned to Firefox. Never regretted that decision :P

    Edit:

And on why it seems that everyone thinks that you should be using Chrome... Honestly, I don't have any idea... I guess that is something similar to the musical tastes: if someone like X or Y song/artist/genre, then that someone must recommend that to her/his family/friends/acquaintances.

Or, that had happened to me several times πŸ˜…

@0x412E2047696C Yea I use Chrome at school because the Firefox's version on the computers is very outdated but that's is when I'm not on my laptop. Also, Firefox is pretty good on mobile as well hence why I'm using it on that. Thanks for the feedback.

@Sukhi on the mobile Firefox Focus is just plain amazing. I love it!
  • 1
@0x412E2047696C ok never heard of it I'll try it out. Thanks
  • 1
@Sukhi you're welcome. But beware! FF Focus is more like a sandbox, or Las Vegas (haha): everything what happen in the current session, it stay in that session (not counting downloads), and such session is lost once you close the browser, or press a notification that appears for that functionality

@0x412E2047696C Good to know dude, Thanks for the advice.

I used chrome for the last year or two, now switching to Firefox actually. Chrome is pretty nice when it comes to additional apps, other than that I don't notice too much of a difference between the two.

@reeve567 Yea chrome does have a great plugin marketplace but there is quite a bit of rubbish on it aswell. Oh and welcome to devRant. Hope you enjoy it.

    MS Edge anyone ??

Edge at home with my 3 devices and FF Quantum at work (because edge is outdated on that PC)
  • 1
@MrCSharp according to a test Google did Edge is the fastest browser. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@MrCSharp just when I'm desperate enough because Firefox don't get along with the "reaction GIFs *" from Caveman Circus hahah

@Sukhi Yeah it's quite the variety with quality on the market. It seems like that's the normal for most software markets, some more than others. And thank you for the welcome 😁

@sslPoodle amazing browser! Despite that I'm not a huge fan of Chrom* browsers, Vivaldi's is if not the best, one of the very best.
  • 1
@0x412E2047696C i switched to edge when MS added extensions support last year and never looked back. Oh, and it doesn't eat my battery.

Switched from FF to chrome back when chrome was in 1.0

Have tried to jump back to FF a few times but just don’t seem to like it. Vivaldi I guess just annoyed the crap out of me with it feeling like it’s a hybrid of chrome and edge.

Do NOT touch chrome. Once installed you never get completly rid of it (on Windows).
I once was a FF FanBoy. But the bugs and slowlyness of it made me to switch to Chrome.
Now, I'm switching back to FF, because I saw the new beta (and the earlier versions) and now I'm really pumped for FF 57 πŸ’ͺ🏻

Firefox on desktop, chromium for development, Brave on mobile

@demiko yup, the new firefox 57 beta

There are two reason I prefer Chrome over Firefox.
    1. The print window. Its amazing and shows real-time print preview while doing adjustments.
    2. Ctrl+V to paste an image from the clipboard. It doesn't works in firefox

Wait, what browser are you using now? :O
  • 1
@mundo03 Firefox for all my personal devices and Google Home at school.
  • 0
    @mundo03 what do you use?
  • 1
@Sukhi I used chrome for years, I recently switched to Firefox because I needed an extension.

I liked it, then moved to Firefox nightly and it is awesome and beautiful, but the extension I need is not compatible with it yet. Oh well.

I agree with chrome's printing view being better, but I don't use it a lot.

Im a firefox Guy. I have no trust in Google therefore Chrome is a no go.
Personally I use Firefox Nightly! its awesome. You can also use the Beta I guesss just make sure you have version 57.

I tested Chrome, FF, FF Nightly and Brave (new one from mozilla guys) and the Nightly Version was the fastest for me. Brave might be an option later, but right now its just too slow for me.

I started with Chrome and used ist for a long time but everybody knows the RAM-problem... So I got a Mac and used Safari for a long time, pretty good browser but outdated technologies... So now I'm using Firefox, also contribute to the Mozilla Firefox project and on top of that I know one of the Mozilla developers! Firefox <3

@Ederbit remember brave serves privacy friendly ads to you to find themselves.
Also have or will have some sort of donation engine for content creators.

Also brave is not from the Mozilla guys, brave is from the now-fired-mozilla-founder (some sort of sexist scandal happened)

I have been using πŸ”₯fox on laptop and mobile for a long time. Recently started using Vivaldi, it's great.
  • 2
@mundo03 Ah yes, ex-mozilla. Didn't know anything about a scandal though. Oh well, FF with some Privacy Addons is plenty for me. Don't need no other Browser.

The only downside FF has for me over Chrome is that you can't silently install it, for deployment reasons. (Haven't tried yet myself)

I had a lot of trouble with Firefox in the last years, so I switched to Chrome.

However the latest beta version of Firefox, Firefox Quantum (v57), is really amazing and I'm reverting to FF on all devices.
It's faster than chrome, doesn't lock up as easy and the android (probably iOS too) version supports addons as well (finally script blockers on the phone)!

Firefox Beta is really good, consider trying it if not done yet
  • 1
Chrome Canary, Firefox Nightly and Microsoft Edge 😬
  • 2
    Desktop: Vivaldi(surfing)
    IE11 (to download stuff)
Mobile: FF Focus all the time
    Rarely Dolphin zero

I think you should give it a try, some people like chrome and some people like Firefox. Give it a try and experience yourself instead of asking others. I may like chrome, Firefox or any other browsed depending upon my needs so choice of browser changes person to person. Each of them has some advantages and disadvantages over each other. I personally use chrome on desktop as well as mobile phone I have tried Firefox on both of them but eventually I end up using chrome again.

Personal opinio. I am a Firefox user because I just love Firefox :). Also because fuck Chrome.

@Ederbit No trust in google, hey there like minded person!

@linuxxx hey man are you like flash of devRant because you are like always there in every second or third post I am reading.
  • 3
    @aitkotw I'm a highly active user πŸ˜…
  • 1
@linuxxx Of course! But I also don't really trust any big coorporation anymore.

On another note, i've been meanng to ask you what pdf-viewer are you using? (Sorry if this is a bit offtopic) Since i uninstalled Adobe Reader i used FF for that. But the word is Browsers are more vulnerable than dedicated PDF-Viewers πŸ˜…
  • 1
@linuxxx wowww no need to brag about it those numerical digits next to your awatar is enough shock i can take in at a time.

I am using Firefox everywhere. Now I am running Firefox beta (57). This will be huge while it gets released.
