My first real web project was in my senior year of college.

It was a hacker rank clone. And supported a bunch of languages. It was a fun project.

Others created a static website.
And guess what? they got the same grade as I did.

Common in our country. My project was based of object tracking in a video and I got less marks than one who submitted the copy paste java swing app.

@gsharm5u looking It as a learning experience. I’m very sure the assignment had a specification. If so, they got the same grade as you because they also met the specification. The lesson is, don’t build more than is needed; the client only paid for the agreed on spec. Anything extra is gravy for them and a gift from you... I’m not sure you can afford that

I had built a firebase based social network app which was a quora + instagram clone + a dynamic newsfeed based on the gps location with a stunning ui.
    And guess what?
First place was awarded to a guy who did a static website for charity organisation which had a link to an online payment gateway 😂😂

@windlessuser lost all hopes on my college from that second 😂😂

@htlr it’s all perspective. They taught you to focus on money first; features later 😹😹

@windlessuser that would have been ideal. But no. We had no specs. All it had to be a web project. And then the more creative it was the better grade you got.

Few days ago I went to a web-a-thon (hackthon for web devs) and the winners had used wix !

If everyone got grades compared to the best one it would hardly be fair
It's just up to you to realize it can be fun to make it and amazing, people won't really care if it's over what is required

@astro29 It would have been that way. If they didn't rub it in my face. 😂

I get that it's unfair to evaluate with respect to the best project or that you should get a good grade if you have met specs.
But the thing that's most annoying is that in a lot of cases, the people judging or evaluating our projects aren't that experienced. Use a few complicated terms and the evaluator won't ask a single question. Hell they don't even realize when a project is just a copy paste of someone else's work and the guy submitting it doesn't have a clue about the implementation
