Ah, so the great war I my head has begun. When you're a CS major in college, you can't help but realize that knowing everything about computers and how to develop everything on thrm is next to impossible. So you start to question "what will be my specialty?". "Web dev or Low-level? "swirl through my head. I work on projects when I should be writing that 5-page essay for that College Composition course I care nothing about. Then on my own time I need to openly practice and refine my craft, and studying. Sheesh, I hate time (or the lack thereof). How do you do anything major on your own these days?

I’m in college full time and I work full time. I get time to work on my side projects about 1 hour every third or fourth week... it sucks but it will end.

Also don’t think too hard about a speciality. Dabble a little in everything and you will know pretty quick what you like and what you don’t.

Indeed, what the dude above said is on point. Dabble in everything until you find your niche. Another thing, do not take what others call "shit" as shit. Learn whatever the hell you want and it you like it master it and learn all of its shortcommings. When I was in school I did not know what I wanted to do in terms of development. Thus far I have professionally worked as a mobile dev (hated it) and as a full stack web developer (love it) and I make it my goal to be good enough in all the most prominent technologies while keeping my favorites at hand. If you love learning new things and love comp sci then that is really all you need man. Code and be happy!

As far as working goes, try getting your feet wet in some web tech if that is what you like. Learn all major concepts and do not neglect your css and sql (i did and it bit me in the ass, shit it still does) and try to get small jobs if you can. Clients do not know what they want even when they think they do. I was lucky enough to get a full scholarship that even paid me to go to school, meaning that twice a month i would get a check for whatever I needed (approx 1500 usd which wasnt that bad) so i could relax a lil
