So, today a client said: "If you are a web developer, well you can make me a damn mobile app. It's the same fooking thing, you just write code and make it go on my device. I want a whatsapp-like app for my company."

I really, really wanted to punch him on his godamn face... At the end I spent tbe rest of the meeting explaining that I don't develop mobile apps since I'm a web developer and that it is NOT THE SAME THING. He went angry and said "Well, I think I'll find a better dev somewhere else. You are a useless one"

@Lewisyuburi not actually, you are a web developer using web technology to develop "native" mobile apps. I hate when devs say using ionic, phonegap, cordova, etc is mobile development. It is not. #myopinion

If you have the patience to handle the amount if stupid you can always wrap a responsive web in a an "app", but I sort of think you are better of this way...

Also saw someone here on devrant with a good response to people saying "programmers should be able to program all languages - it's just writing the code" with "can you please repeat that sentence in German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese". Would probably still anger a client like that though.

React Native and NativeScript is also pretty nice, especially if you've already learned things like React (for RN) and Angular 2 (for NS).

Your client doesn't understand the back-end architecture involved in building whatsapp. He's going to pay for his ignorance, whether he pays a developer big time, or his business idea flops.

@tytho he could be smarter than us and manage to do both

    How I would explain why:

"You know how in real life we have lots of different languages, and nobody knows all of them? The same happens with programming. Websites don't speak the same language as apps, and I don't know the language that apps speak. I specialize in the language websites speak."

    There. Explained.
