I'm burning mine on Unreal Engine.

Talking from experience, No schedule would work. I too got exams coming up, FYP deadline is in two weeks, Office work is now piled up like a hill, sleep deprived, out of coffee. In short, I'm living my worst nightmare right now, because nothing's getting done.

Slavery is long gone but mindset of Slavery is still there with some people, moreover it sounds like that you should be thankful that we're paying you instead of beating you to death to do the work. Fuck it. How are they still in business, hiring people. Guess they enjoy paying meager wages to desperate people for hefty work.

Because if don't do meetings and waste the time of actually working employees, they won't have a reason to blame anyone for delays and problems occured. And also they will be seen as useless people who just look after people doing job and telling them how to do their job...
