@dontbeevil yeah... JS compilers are the worst... V8++ and such ='D
-
It's 2021... the guy obviously identifies as a compiler.
-
@N00bPancakes because I can scroll wherever i want to scroll and not just where THEY want me to scroll. Seriously, there should be a mechanic to deny websites to set the overflow property of the body or html element...

I can definitely recommend to buy a cheap ass second hand Raspberry Pi, install PiHole and plug that thing into your network. Reconfigure your DNS and you are done. Cost me 10 euros total to get rid of most of this kind of popups.
Can't detect an adblock if there is no server connection to load ads from in the first place ;) -
Editor? Sublime Text.
IDE? Visual Studio 2019.
Hotel? Expedia.
Guess I'm getting old -.- -
@Sumafu some cutting-edge technology right there, as always ;) #Neuland

FYI: Javascript has Map(). In contrast to objects, maps are iterable and can use almost any object as key instead of just strings.

Welcome to devRant =)

So people like you are the reason why we get points for writing easily understandable code in university...

@ihatecomputers @DanijelH i think the biggest difference is that i work in a research environment. My client is either myself or my professor that wants to publish a paper on a specific problem.
Maybe those frameworks are a good choice for big projects and demanding clients. Maintenance is also something i mostly do not have to care about, so i definitely see your point there.
Nevertheless, i would really miss the optimization possibilities. Especially while working with WebGL and custom networking, like i mostly do. -
@ihatecomputers most of the time i cannot even reuse classes i wrote before because the individual requirements differ so much. One project i can use much more memory to optimize for CPU usage while another time memory usage is crucial... frameworks like Vue/React/Whatever.js try to fit a broad variety of usecases. Individual optimization and tweaking seems to be a thing of the past =/

Am I the only JavaScript developer out there refusing to work with a framework?
-
Should have used GOTOs

@irene some pixels on a screen, actually =D
I could also describe a 1px thick line as a rectangle btw. So why offer line drawing in the first place? -
@Pogromist welp, that's boolshit. The lines are in the 3D space, too. In the end it's all just passed to the rasterizer, which is obviously a 2D thing. Even triangles are simply mapped into a 2D space and rasterized. They used to have this feature and decided to limit it to 1px thickness. Maybe because nobody used it or to make room for other features - I don't know.

@ralnivar aaah that makes sense...

You want to know what the hell is going on in their brains? Some neuroscientists from Berlin did some studies. Unfortunately i could only find a german article (https://www.focus.de/tid-29346/) so i will try to summarize:
They conducted a study with 25 test subjects, partly Samsung, as well as some Apple fans. They were shown images of products from both companies while their brain activity was recorded using an MRI scanner. The results show that Samsung products trigger a part of the brain called "prefrontal cortex", which is associated with decision making, planning and consideration. Meanwhile, Apple products activate an area of the brain related to sympathy with other people. Apple even triggers a part of the "temporal lobe" that is usually only activated when humans are stirred because they perceive emotional faces. The researches comment: "That's exceptional, because Apple has no face. They achieved to humanize their device - true to the motto 'the iPhone is my baby'" -
I always register the www subdomain and let it redirect to the domain without this crap ;)

C++ for almost everything: OpenGL, Vulkan, VR applications, socket servers, ...
I simply love the explicit code and control you obtain by using it. Also, it's waaaaay faster than Python or even Java. -
Switched to sublime text ages ago and never lost a single character ever since...

Please... this title... just... don't...

I like how the headphones' position gets fixed after 30000++ =D
-
@Sefie yeah it sometimes does that for some reason; a quick reload helps... Maybe that's a randomized error to convey this warm Win2000 feeling ;)
-
@nitwhiz yup =D That guy seems to have too much time for private projects. There are ports for some other operating systems, too: https://bellard.org/jslinux/

@DewWisp ;)

@Floydian

I mean... Windows at least TRIES to give you some information. It may be useless but it's a start.
This? Good luck, mate! =D -
