The time reporting system we have, allows us to use either eight... or nine characters! Only alphanumerics allowed. Hohum.

Better still - start writing tests yourself! Then you know when you break things, before you get "unwanted" feedback later. Simples!

Coding music... well, depends on my mood, whether I listen or not.

When I do listen to music while coding, however, the genre varies quite a bit. When getting into "the zone", I prefer a nice fast rhythm with a steady beat; goa, psy, trance. No lyrics! Other times, when I'm in "mixed mode", e.g. with getting questions from right and left, various pop, rock and metal works a treat.

And then there's those odd moments, when I listen to radio. With news and all that. Doesn't happen often, but it happens when I want to shield myself from the immediate world, but not fancy listening to anything in particular.

"Simple" solution, just store all the binary "text" as the corresponding ASCII characters, like using CP437 or latin-1, with ASCII character 0x01 being the smiling character, etc. Render using a suitably small font, capable of all those characters... or render an image of them...

Wouldn't look pretty for e.g. dll files, but it would be a PDF!

I keep finding myself about to do exactly that... only to realise we're using version control... whatever the code was, it will be available one day... as long as someone remembers it did exist. :P

People whine because they can. Asking for it, would've been if Windows was installed instead!

Actually, e621's API is kinda half decent. Lots of statistics one can gather with it. E.g. what types of posts happen after certain movies are released. Just to mention something.

Started with "dark mode" in the 90s. When that was the norm. Then somewhere when computers and UIs "evolved", backgrounds had to be white, or at least bright, since "But, papers are white and it's easier and $reasons"... to which I've always been "Well, paper doesn't shine in your face..."

@git-out Yes, but it also destroys all formatting. And applies a monospace format to the text. So no, it's not a solution.

No idea if devRant conforms to my wishes... so let's try; Sometimes I want to have text with asterisks around them. *nods* But without missing the ability to have formatting where needed elsewhere.

But that's apparently too much to ask for, when it comes to Slack.

@Codex404 Well, sort of... it's a kind of similarish variant of Markdown, but with its own syntax. E.g. how you set text on links are quite different. What gets bold is different too.

But indeed, I can live with the formatting method chosen, but I still miss being able to disable some formatting. That's definitely not supported.
