@hypervtechnics Not necessarily during the interview but yes, as part of the application process people might ask you to code a quicksort or to draw an UML diagramm or stuff like that.
-
@sunfishcc But they're so cute! :(
-
When our student body moved office we found old floppy disks from our predecessors in the 90ies where they stored their plans for bbqs or field trips, it was wonderful :D
-
@NoMad I use overleaf sometimes but it struggles with instable internet connections (as in you cannot use it without a server connection), so sometimes I need something more stable and use gitlab to share the project between platforms.
-
I mean there are tons of guys just copying or literally translating stuff, but if you accuse someone, you should at least be able to present some proof (e.g. a website that was copied).
Randomly deciding your work can't be yours is bullshit. -
First as somebody already mentioned, you might not want to disclose your gender at all.
Second: I really dont get the problem with this. Even if you think having more than 2 genders is bullshit: then let the "SJWs" have their fun with that, its not like anybody else is harmed or even affected by a third option. -
Someone recently told me mailcow seems to be awesome, and its docker based?
Since i have my personal vendetta against docker after working with it once i opted against it and choose iRedMail, but that requires a fresh system or it will fuck with existing configurations and not even your grandchildren will be able to find the problems. -
Thats so cool, congrats! :)

When we were still in school some idiot fiddled with the cd department of my group by opening and closing it via hardware.
We then made him believe he broke it since he didn't know that you can also open it from the OS, so we did that, acted shocked and suprised, multiple times, until he got a teacher to confess he broke a computer :D -
There are some websites he can try and check out. Codeacademy has nice beginner courses on how a language works, data structures and functions; then theres stuff such as Codingame or HackerRang that have more of "real" tasks and are less tutorial-ly.
-
@CptFox Oh just do it and I'll stop at 1337, promised! :D
-
@devTea good luck to you too! I'm sure it'll work out great in the end. :)
And even if it's not ideal, there'll always be more options and paths! -
And maybe the worst is that I don't see things go much better for 2019 (at least with stuff like climate change). :(
-
@devTea i hope they will overrule that because its an awful idea. Research is not only about perfect solutions and success, finding that something does NOT work is also very important but often ignored since its not as fame-worthy as success-stories.
Thats also what makes research such a toxic field and why I sure as hell wont stay at the university after my degree.
Deep learning is a very cool field! :) i did a robotics lab project with tensorflow and cnns to teach a robot to recognize certain objects and point them out, found that very enjoyable (although the learning process was extremly time consuming xD) -
@tattvamasi oh my gosh, thats wonderful! until now I've used the wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... ) for that because it also lists all kinds of symbols and their codes but the drawing feature is awesome!
will share that with my friends and students, thank you! :) -
@devTea we aim to publish later, but its not part of the task (and i won't receive a worse grade if we're not getting accepted or something like that). I work alone but have 2 supervisors who stop me before doing anything stupid. e.g. we're spending money to pay for survey participation and they help make sure the concept works before we waste anything.
oh yeaa, reading is such an annoying task xD I usually read abstracts and limitations/results first, then the rest if I still think its relevant for me, but I'm still not good at concentrating on text for long periods of time.
what are you writing about? :) -
@devTea you mean the topic of the thesis?
i'm with the usable sec&privacy department; we're researching how incentives of different kinds might motivate users to activate 2FA. the gaming branche often gifts you ingame things, so we're going to try and replicate that for more "normal" things such as online-banking, online shopping, social media. -
@tattvamasi I've been tutoring a module about academic communcation and needed to grade lots of first-timer texts as well - I totally get assuming that people need assistance heh. :D
the rant was more about them throwing advides at me while at the same time handing out broken templates. especially the missing sources are a major mistake and something you usually see instantly if you bother to read your own guide. Guess the first thing I'm doing with this will be fixing it and sending it right back. :D -
I'm really glad I avoided that - one of our programming classes had a tutor that required you to be able to write every task live on paper to prove that you actually know how to solve it.
i mean if you have the rough idea and know where to find information online there is REALLY no need to test whether or not you can code perfectly on paper without any technical assistance. -__- -
@RememberMe Thank you! :)
No, the username is madeup without references as I know at least one of my friends is on here and I'd like to remain anonymous.
And because hamsters are cute. -
Thank you all so much, I think that helped me! :)
I hear "oh you shouldnt worry with a degree, companies know you have no experience" as often as i hear "lol that degree is worthless without practical skills lol".
Guess my nexz steps will be focussing on 2-3 languages and searching for junior developement positions.
