Why specifically the terminal? As far as web based stuff goes I usually use Keybr

@seraphimsystems Yes, but they don't share cookies, so if I wanted to send someone a YouTube video on something like Snapchat (iOS), they wouldn't be able to like the video or subscribe because they aren't signed into Snapchat for iOS's browser even if they're signed in using safari.
@YppaH I don't see how it makes much of a difference though, if someone sends me a YouTube video on snap, I'm going to copy the link, paste it into safari, open it up in the YouTube app, and then close the YouTube app and return to snapchat. That's way more annoying and convoluted than it just linking to the YouTube app in the first place. I guess it keeps engagement up, but it's at the expense of user experience, which is immoral imo, especially when you don't give the user the option to disable it. -
The problem with deleting your Facebook is that it's essentially like YellowPages for the new age. The problem with Facebook lies more within the people on your Facebook than Facebook as a service. A few years ago I made a new Facebook, and I only added people who enlightened my day and people who I legitimately cared about. I made all my privacy settings "only me" and I uploaded like 3 profile photos and a cover photo and I was done. From that point onward I was only engaging with my real friends and people who were focused on productivity, I didn't waste my time posting about stuff or my opinion, or even commenting on people's posts. I just used Facebook to look people up by name and add new aqquaintences. I honestly don't see a reason for deleting personally, and if you're worried about it collecting your data, block it from seeing your location and don't give it any data to collect in the first place. If you waste too much time on it uninstall the app and only use the desktop, etc.

@PaulTheSaltyDev it's the mobile age, it's the classic "Data collection is more important than our users freedom or experience" since users these days aren't only using web browsers to access content it makes fragmentation between mobile applications and mobile web browsers more obvious. Sure you can do things like use the devices advertising ID, But I would imagine something like safari on iOS may limit websites from accessing something like that. From my understanding it means that Facebook or Snapchat aren't able to access Safari's browser cookies I'm order to display relevant advertising so using in app web browsers may be better for tracking user interests and marketing despite it fragmenting the experience for the end user. Other than that the only thing I could think of would be to counter security threats like phishing attempts. Sending someone a phishing link on Facebook that opens in an in app browser may protect against phishing because it could detect it. Purely specularion

Look up something called Gatekeeper Friendly, there are work arounds for this issue but I've only run into them when I have witnessed other Mac users pirating cracked applications.
-
@fun2code it's more of humor than anything else. I'm not talking down on Arch users, if it's more practical for you to use Arch than by all means use it, however I have absolutely no use for it on x86, although it's very useful on RISC based machines imo. I just find things like Debian and RedHat to be better for software support, and distros like Gentoo to be better for people who really enjoy getting their hands dirty, but to each their own.

By corrupted what do you mean exactly? Do you mean that it corrupted grub? Or did it actually corrupt a partition? Also it's worth mentioning that if you're using a standard HDD it could've actually just been your drive starting to fail out which something like a windows update with massive write operations would probably bring to your attention. Imo scan for corrupted sectors and use something like crystaldiskmark or UserBenchmark to scan the drive and compare it to it's original design speed. You might want to back anything important up.
However if it's just grub, that's pretty standard. If you aren't using UEFI you could probably use something like EasyBCD to configure the default windows bootloader to have the ability to boot from Linux instead of using grub. -
This is an example of things being oversimplified for the average user. The average grandma isn't going to search for "the best e-reader for reading" because they just know of those fancy 7"+ screens as tablets. However the answer to your question is probably anything with an Oled screen so you can use a theme that is white text on a black background to save battery life and your eyes lol

TFW people who run Arch Linux are the geek equivalent of people who bring their Macs to Starbucks to show off how wealthy they are, except instead of a display of wealth it's a display of elitism.

Keep them on keyrings and put them on carabineers. #ShamelessPlug

@datawraith this precisely. Also with the newer SSDs in Macs they'll automatically swap ram when needed.
Also, since I'm in a Mac thread it's worth reccomending to check out MacsFanControl, it's a free app that allows you to limit your processors temperature so it can turbo boost longer. If you keep it below 90c youll get better performance and since you're keeping the components cooler less of a chance of board or component failure. -
@olback oh nice, haha I was just speculating why it could've displayed that way

@Lahsen2016 I use all three operating systems, I own at least 8 PCs running Windows and Linux, and I only own one Mac. With that being said Linux and Unix have a lot more in common with one another than they do with windows
-
@linuxxx I'm comparing them based on design, not on philosophy. MacOS and Linux are both *nix based operating systems. Also Mac OS isn't really any more locked down than windows if you know what you're doing. The reason why its comparable is I'd you'd rather run software natively rather than in a VM (because wine barely works lol) and the problem with VM's is they'll drain your battery on the go. I'm not a programmer, however I am a repair guy / service tech. I see WAY too many things wrong with windows on a daily basis to ever want to use it for anything other than lesiure unless I care to make constant backups which is annoying.
-
You could also use disk drill on Mac. Never had that issue though.

The kids at my school are really stupid and don't get it, I just log onto a BS burner email and send a bunch of "STOP REPLYING ALL" Emails to annoy and educate every year. Works like a charm lol

Inb4 People who have never heard of eBay continue to call Macs expensive and overpriced despite them being affordable on the secondhand market and actually retaining their value decently well especially if you bought them used to begin with. Also ITT people who don't see the value in coding for the ecosystem that has the wealthiest users that buy the highest percentage of paid applications out of any other platform.
For those of us who like Linux and enjoy the attention to detail apple had as well as their beautiful trackpads and keyboard layouts, a Mac is a good alternative to Linux with more native software support. -
My guess would be that they have a reserve battery level with a shutdown switch programmed to be based upon the current battery's design capacity instead of the original capacity. Throwing down easy but unrealistic numbers just for the sake of easier math, let's say the original design capacity was 1000mah and the software is programmed to shutdown at 5% original capacity at 50mah. Well if your battery is worn, and it's worn to around 900mah max then 5% of the original design is now 45mah, assuming the device is hard coded to shutoff at 5% of it's available capacity (including wear) it would be able to sink below 50mah depending on how worn your battery is. And since the application is probably designed in a way that tracks design capacity, it sees a device with 45mah when 50mah is baseline zero, and it throws a negative number. Purely speculation.

Everyone likes to take a **** on Macs but the truth is MacOS is essentially Linux for the average consumer with better software support. Plus you get the benefit of being able to write in Xcode for Apple products. At the end of the day I would personally reccomend going with something that has 4 cores as well as a low end GPU. You might be able to find something a year or two old like that for a STEEP discount compared to buying new.
-
That's insane lol, I wonder why they would do that. Especially with things like phone numbers being used to login to major sites like Facebook, and then you just cross check the passwords. Pretty foolish, but I honestly doubt they store them in plain text.
