I'm not talking about cloning the company's bread and butter software and selling it or whatever else upper management might be shitting their pants over. It's just that there's a lot of research and effort that goes into writing code, so a dev should be able to create a doggy bag of handy code they created and take it with them. When I left my last company, my immediate supervisor, a developer himself, said that I SHOULD take my code with me. But then a few days went by and the excuses started coming out of the woodwork and it turned into a NO.
I'm not asking these days. If I write an algorithm or something that I think will help me down the road, I'm sticking it in a DLL and/or a repo and that's that, lol. Am I the only one that thinks this way? -
@ozgn That's savage
-
@ckoulatsi (sigh)...I still maintain Cobol projects. :-/
-
@Stuxnet Yeah, but sometimes you just want to see all the details.

We have to get this devRant post to 331 votes!!

@bkwilliams Yeah, it's already in descending order by memory.

The CPU has calmed down to the 50s range, but memory is still at 94%. GPU is in the 30s now. I think it's time to ask the boss for a new computer!
-
@Charon92 I love to do that in fast food drive-thrus as well. Always fun!
-
@writeascript Leave it to me to bring it down a perverted path! Good call though, I can see trees now, lol.
-
I'm sorry, lol, but I can't stop thinking about how the television looks like it has jizz running down the screen....LMAO!! What the hell is that anyway??
-
That escalated quickly
-
Where the hell are you, Jurassic Park?? That thing needs to die...!!

@ethernetzero Yeah, 3rd attempt. But there was no warning, and no way to, for example, use a second factor of authentication to bypass the wait time. Additionally, like Irene said, 30 minutes is a bit much. :-/

EVERYTHING is the XML before I add the namespace and fiddle with the element name here, lol.

@ilPinguino I know, it's bizarre. Next thing you know the message will explain how they're mindfully considering my search and to click here if I'd like to chat with a support agent about how the search results hurt my feelings.

@Stuxnet I really want to like it, but it feels like they're just not in touch with their customers' needs. For example, I listen to a lot of EDM and like to purchase my favorite tracks to support the artist. Since Amazon doesn't have all the stuff I'd like to buy, they used to have a feature where you could upload and store your own audio files. This was nice because a lot of EDM artists provide free downloads to begin with, so there never will be an option to buy. Amazon got rid of that feature. To me, that makes their service less convenient. So dumb.

devRantJS...it could be a thing...

You can wipe away your tears, but the scars will remain...

@ramen I think that's what the Tor Browser defaults to, right?
@spoiledgoods I was listening to mostly Hair Metal, Progressive House, and Hip-Hop in the 90s. I know of the band, but the album didn't click. Good catch! (unless it really is pyro porn!) -
Quick! You can get it back, just set up some click bait!!

I don't care who I'm serving, just toss some pizza down the dark hole I'm working in and I'll toss code back up. 🍕🐱💻🙌 #DeveloperLife

I think we're all wired similarly...

Have you tried emailing him your questions?

Moral of the story: only hire Indians, because they ALL have connections to big companies and senior positions.

Oh, I mean, here's a @RustyCookie...

Cute! Whatever the platform, now you'll be cleaning up his PHPee and Hadookie. 😏
-
Or even worse: working with a team that doesn't want to use version control...😱

Awesome! Here's a cookie: 🍪

Good on you that you stuck it out! I also know how a very long period of career uncertainty feels. It's hard to act sunny when all you feel is cloudy.
