I fucking love it when the intern is trying to help you with a complicated problem he knows nothing about but when you tell him it doesn't make sense he still acts like he knows better3
-
Recently I've been put in charge of checking if all backups work and the servers aren't getting full.
The first thing I did was write a script that does it for me.
Don't work hard, work smart 😎5 -
Today it finally happened. After years of unsecured FTP, `chmod -R 777 public_html` and outdated WordPress sites, a WordPress site at work just got hacked. They were just asking for it.
Too bad I'm the one who has to fix it tomorrow...7 -
So, this is my co-workers hosting websites: They login as root, chmod -R 777 the entire fucking public_html, disable SELinux, use unsecured FTP, and then they are surprised all sites on that server are infected with some sort of crazy virus6
-
"I quit Facebook because they do not value my privacy", my friend told me while scrolling through his Instagram feed8
-
What the fuck? This literally says nothing about the game, this is just some error from Google's end. Some people should just be kept away from tech in the first place. The best part is that edit...10

Welcome to the company I work at since 2 months, where we:
- do not have secure FTP
- do not have version control for 50% of our projects
- still use classic ASP for major projects
- give our public_html folder chmod 777
- do not have testing databases, only production ones
There's probably a lot more, but this is the first that came to my mind8 -
Felt like a fucing badass just now. My boss sent me a message saying that one of the servers is down and that he can't reach anyone else and he doesn't know how to fix it.
So I sent him a couple of Linux commands to fix the issue and it worked! By his reaction you could tell he was really happy, and so was I!7 -

}
// It's PHP but I had to come up with something original, but what gives... it's my birthday!11 -
window.alert = function() {}
This weird error message kept showing up but everything worked just fine1 -
First day at my internship. After an explanation of how everything works and which tools the company uses, I proceeded to setup my computer.
My first assignment was to write this dynamic thing that shows all the company's projects using an XML file with all data. I had to use the front-end the previous intern made.
So when I opened his old files, I was presented with some badly indented HTML. That's not the worst part: He mixed up rows with columns. I guess it's truly like the stories here on devRant. -
I fucking hate it when people start talking to me about how "amazing" this one programmer they know is. "He works at this large company where he writes very complicated code for huge companies." Upon asking at which company he works, the answer is: "I don't know. All I know is that he does great things"
Like what the fuck are you talking about if you know nothing about the guy, you act like you fuck him in the ass every night. You fucking know I'm working my ass off to make my dreams come true, and then you act like I'm not a programmer just because I like to avoid stress by not working at these huge companies?
Fuck you, fuck the son of a bitch at his huge company, and please fucking choke on your own dick5 -
One of my neighbours came by today.
Her: So... I heard you're working on a website
Me: Yes, correct
Her: Nice, and does it all work?
Me: Yeah
Her: I use a WordPress template myself too
WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE SUCH LOW EXPECTATIONS OF ME6 -
I did it! I am now part of a web company as an intern, entirely self-taught. This is so cool, when they looked at my code they were surprised about my skills and how clean my code was. Fuck yeah, I'm happy8
-
Assuming that a designer can also be a game artist, I met this guy from China online and he seemed cool and all that, and we decided to make a game together, seeing as he was a good artist. I told him when the game would generate income once it's finished, we would do a 50% share. He agreed.
After a while of development, he sent me a message: "Hey dude where's my money?", and I was like: "What money? You agreed to have a share when we finish the game." He replied: "Yes but I need money, I don't care about you and your game. I want my money."
After this he kept sending me messages begging for money while he abandoned the project. Until one day he said: "I quit."
And that was the last time I worked together with someone on a game.9 -
I really hate it when people immediately say "Yeah I don't get this stuff" even before taking a moment to even try to understand it. Mostly when talking about computers and coding
This even happens with the most simple thing I show. I sent someone a picture of a registration page I made, and I said: "This is where you create an account". He replies: "Yeah I don't get this stuff". I thought to myself: fuck, what is going on with this world if they dont even understand what a registration page is?
Another time I told my mom that data on databases is stored in tables just because I thought she was interested, and she said: "Yeah I don't get this stuff". COME ON EVERYBODY KNOWS WHAT A TABLE IS.
Just stop saying you don't get it before I finished, just because its about code and programming, its fucking annoying and it makes me lose faith in humanity8 -
I usually take a shower to deal with low motivation. Ideas pop into my head and this gives me enough to keep going the coming couple of hours. I also continuously listen to music I like during development1
-
I fucking hate it how the noun "addiction" is way too overused in general. If someone plays a game over 20 hours a week, someone apparently has a gaming addiction already. But that's way too broad. I think people should only use the word "addiction" when it truly affects someone in a bad manner.
For example, my dad keeps saying I have a computer addiction. Like what the fuck? If my hobby was to play the guitar and I spent more than 4 hours a day on that, am I a guitar addict? It's like using a computer is considered unhealthy...2 -
The struggle it is to find some music and sounds for a small game I'm working on...
I have even come across this website that provides "free" sound effects, but every single track costs like $2.95. The word "free" was literally in their website name.
And then I didn't even mention the fact that 80% of these websites ask you to log in to download files from their end.
At last but not least, some are offering .mp3 files for free, while the .wav version, with the EXACT SAME FUCKING content costs money. I could literally just use a file converter
Can't wait until I get my stuff to create my own music and sound effects3 -
Me using Windows 10:
- Bluetooth device doesn't remove when clicking the remove button
- I try to remove it elsewhere by going to the Device Manager
- *Device Manager does not respond*
- *Nothing responds anymore*
- I try to restart my computer, restarting takes an hour
- Computer finally starts up
- Bluetooth device now has a different name
- Removing the device works
A task that should only take 3 seconds, took about 65 minutes for this OS. Fuck my life, and most of all, fuck Windows3 -
I finally fucking did it. I left the SoloLearn community for good, if it's even considered a community at all. Let me compile you a list why it is pure crap.
0. They only grant you totally impractical tutorials a few internet searches can teach you as well, maybe even more in-depth
1. Their challenge system is entirely unbalanced. Upon winning a challenge, you get 5 XP, if you lose one you lose 40 XP
2. Their Code Playground feed is filled with shitty pieces of code that do not teach anyone anything
3. Code Playground's intellisense sucks. When a variable name is autocompleted by the user and you press any other button, including on your keyboard, the autocompleted part simply disappears
4. A recent coding challenge was featuring that new Avengers movie where you had to create a web page featuring all Avengers. This is impossible to do for non-web developers like me, while their challenges are "for everyone"
5. The Q&A section is full of posts that are no questions. They use it to share their shitty programming memes and nobody gives a shit that that's completely off-topic
A pretty long rant but it's been worth it every word. Farewell, SoloLearn! Go fuck yourself7 -
Manager: When will you have finished this task?
Me: In about one hour
*One hour later*
Manager: You done yet?
Me: Give me another week
