I've been editing sound effects, animations, image assets, creating things from scratch if I don't have what I need, all while I am hired as a software engineer.
We are supposedly an interactive contents company, while we have only two designers (none of which specializes in software design) for half a dozen projects, no sound engineer, and no animator.
I've been using Krita and Audacity as much as VS Code these days - my hobby skills I never thought would use in a professional environment. I wonder how did my predecessors work, surely not every software engineer also happens to be a hobbyist artist.4
It might sound very weird, but after having used Kotlin/Android, RN, and Cordova, to me it feels like Cordova is the fastest when it comes to quickly building a mobile (Android in my case) app that works. It's maybe just because I used RN a couple years ago, but integrating native code with RN was a huge pain compared to how it worked in Cordova.2
To Managers: If your developers are suddenly so unproductive and uncommunicative, it's not likely that they turned into worse developers in all of a sudden. Take a time to review your management strategies, seriously.4
Am I the only one who thinks gaming hardwares are also nice developer machines with extra strips of LED?15
My manager asks for help because they can't suddenly edit their shortcuts in Jira. I can't fix it, and it turns out that it's a bug in Jira which was there since last November.
Nobody has even been assigned to the issue for nearly half a year according to Atlassian's own issues page.
Why would anyone even bother to use Jira at this point?3
The problem with extensive insider documentation is that experienced devs won't need most of it and unexperienced devs won't understand most of it
And whatever docs experienced devs do need is never what unexperienced devs do understand.2
I've been asked by my manager to document my TypeScript project with more than a hundred .ts files such that "someone with no programming background should be able to maintain it."
I should get paid as a textbook author.10
